Ethical principles


The editors will accept for publication articles that correspond in content to the focus of the journal, in accordance with the latest knowledge in the field and in accordance with their best conscience. They will also admit critical articles of their own work.

The editors strive to:

  • expanding knowledge for a wide range of readers;
  • gradually increasing the level of the journal;
  • ensuring the highest possible quality of the journal's content;
  • preserving freedom of expression;
  • preventing the spread of false and misleading commercial claims;
  • ensuring the publication of possible corrections of articles, explanations, or apologies.


Readers are always informed about how to fund research and the role of funders.


Editors make every effort to ensure the highest possible quality of published content, recognizing that sections of a journal may have different requirements, goals, and standards. The decision of the editors to accept or reject the article for publication is always based only on its meaning, originality, comprehensibility, and relevance of the content with regard to the focus of the journal.

The authors are acquainted with the course of the review procedure. Any rejection of the article is always justified, as well as the requirements for editing the article before its publication. Requests for editing the article are made based on two reviews or by the editor in accordance with the instructions for authors.

The authors are clearly and in detail acquainted with the requirements for the content, level and editing of articles. Guidelines for authors are publicly available and regularly updated. The article will be accepted if it is in accordance with the guidelines for authors and a positive opinion of the reviewers is issued.


Editors always provide reviewers with a clear requirement for the content and form of the review. Guidelines for reviewers are regularly updated. Reviewers are also reminded of the need to respect ethical principles. Editors always protect the identity of reviewers to ensure an independent review process.


All materials that have been sent to the editors for review prior to publication are confidential. If the article is not published, the editors will ensure that the materials will not be used in any other way.


The editorial staff responds to complaints as soon as possible. Complainants will be informed of the manner and date of resolving their complaint. The recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) are respected. Unresolved complaints will be forwarded to independent respected figures in the field.


The editors will provide space for the publication of critiques of published articles. Authors always could respond to criticism.

Vodovod.info (ISSN 1804-7157), a journal of municipal water managenent, is an international, professional, peer-reviewed journal focused on water supply, water treatment, sewerage and waste water treatment plants.

Guidelines for authors

Types of articles

The following types of articles can be accepted into the peer-reviewed part of the journal:

  • research paper – bringing original scientific knowledge, fully documentable substantiated evidence, usually 5,000 to 6,000 words in length;
  • practical paper – should provide new information targeted at practitioners, between 1,000 and 3,000 words;
  • searches - critical and complex searches that provide a new perspective or interpretation of the topic, length up to 8,000 words.

Ethics in publishing

By submitting an article for publication, the authors accept the Ethical principles of the journal. The statement concerns authorship, originality, and conflict of interest. Please read this statement to make sure that your submission complies. Remember that conference proceedings are also a form of publication.

To verify originality, your article may be reviewed by CrossCheck for originality detection.

Authors are required to list all sources used to process the article.


After its adoption by the Editorial Board, the article is first preliminarily published in the "Preprint" section, while it is subject to a review procedure. During this time, it is possible to request a change in the order of the authors, and the author will make changes to the content of the article at the request of reviewers or editors. After closing the edits, the article is finally placed in one of the content categories (or deleted) and the article can no longer be changed.


By submitting an article for review and subsequent publication, the authors agree to the License Terms. If necessary, authors must obtain permission to publish copyrighted material. An article that violates the license terms or infringes on the copyrights of others will not be published. The authors are aware that articles are published in Open Access mode.


Authors are required to indicate sources of funding for research and / or article preparation. In the Acknowledgments section, state the names of sponsors, research projects and their identification, it is possible to briefly describe their role in the concept of the study, in collecting, analysing and interpreting data, in writing a report, in the decision to send an article for publication. If sources of funding did not have such involvement, this should be stated.

Publishing options

Articles are published in Open Access mode. There is no fee for publishing a post in Open Access mode.

The article may be rejected by the editors without giving a reason.


Articles written in Czech, Slovak or English will be accepted for publication. Articles in Czech or Slovak must be supplemented with a title, abstract and keywords in English. Papers must be written grammatically flawlessly, in any language. If the manuscript contains grammatical errors, it will be returned for revision before being submitted to review.


Articles are accepted into the publication process exclusively electronically in the form of a file for the Word editor, attachments in jpg or png format. Send the files to the e-mail address of the Editorial office. The formatting must be strictly in accordance with the template.

Review process

The corresponding author is obliged to state the names of 3 potential reviewers (including e-mail contact) who can provide an independent review together with the manuscript submission. You should make sure that these reviewers are not in your institution and, if possible, recommend reviewers from different countries. The editors can select other reviewers.

Articles accepted by the editorial board are submitted to two independent opponents, who prepare a review of the article. The structure of the review is not fixed. Reviewers submit comments on the article review: publish without comments, with minor comments or with serious comments, or do not publish. If the reviewer has serious comments on the article, the author (or author's team) is obliged to comment on the comments and incorporate them into the article within 60 days before publication. If requested by the reviewer, his comment may be published together with the article.

The selection of reviewers is fully in the competence of the editors. Review reviews are stored in electronic form in the editorial office. The editors do not in any way disclose the identity of the reviewers who ultimately reviewed the article.


Use of word processing software

The preferred format for electronic versions is Microsoft Word (other formats consult). However, please do not supply your typescript as a PDF. Authors should not add their own macros. Please supply only the final version of your file (with no hidden text), to avoid any risk of old versions of the text being used in error.

The source files of images and tables will be separately in jpg or png formats. Deliver the tables converted as an image. Insert only the caption of the image or table in the desired position into the text.

Article structure

Do not number or letter section headings.

Papers should be well structured; they must comprise:

  • Title;
  • English title (in the case of Czech or Slovak written papers);
  • Short title of no more than 80 characters;
  • Author name(s), full postal and email addresses for each author. Please indicate who the corresponding author is (underlined);
  • Abstract (English): no more than 200 words briefly specifying the aims of the work, the main results obtained, and the conclusions drawn. Citations must not be included in the Abstract;
  • Abstract (Czech or Slovak): only in the case of Czech or Slovak written papers, no more than 200 words briefly specifying the aims of the work, the main results obtained, and the conclusions drawn. Citations must not be included in the Abstract;
  • Keywords: up to 6 keywords (in alphabetical order) which will enable subsequent abstracting or information retrieval systems to locate the paper;
  • Graphical Abstract: this should offer readers an at-a-glance visualisation of your paper via a single, concise image. Graphical abstracts are optional, but helpful for readers and for the promotion of your paper. This is usually one of the supplied images or an additional illustrative image.

Main text

For clarity, the main text should be subdivided into:

  • Introduction: describing the background of the work and its aims.
  • Methods: a brief description of the methods/techniques used (the principles of these methods should not be described if readers can be directed to easily accessible references or standard texts).
  • Results and Discussion: a clear presentation of experimental results obtained, highlighting any trends or points of interest.
  • Conclusions: a brief explanation of the significance and implications of the work reported.
  • References: these should be to accessible sources. Please ensure that all work cited in the text is included in the reference list, and that the dates and authors given in the text match those in the reference list. References must always be given in sufficient detail for the reader to locate the work cited (see below for formats). Note that your paper is at risk of rejection if there are too few (<10) or too many (>25) references, or if a disproportionate share of the references cited are your own.
    Authors are required to provide DOI identifiers, including a hyperlink, if assigned to individual references.

Supplementary Material: Appendices and other Supplementary Material are not allowed.

For Review Papers the organisation of the paper can be different. It is however important that a review is more than a summary of the literature; an in-depth critical discussion is essential for acceptance of a review paper.

Nomenclature and Units

Please take care that all terminology and notation used will be widely understood. Abbreviations and acronyms should be spelled out in full at their first occurrence in the text.

SI units are strongly recommended. If non-SI units must be used, SI equivalents (or conversion factors) must also be given. Please use the spellings 'litre' and 'metre' (a 'meter' is a measuring instrument).

Please use a decimal comma rather than a point in numbers (i.e. 3,142 not 3.142).

Write equations in dimensionless form or in metric units. Please use italic letters to denote variables (in text or in displayed equations). Add all equations as a picture. Number them in the text using parentheses, eg (1).

  • Cookiebar - on our website we use a cookie bar to obtain information from the visitor that he agrees to the actual use of cookies on this website;
  • CSRF token - a cookie used for secure communication between the front end and the backend of the website; this cookie cannot be deleted due to secure communication;
  • Google Analytics - an external tool for monitoring user behavior on the web - for example, which pages are visited the most; thanks to this tool we can better adapt the website to the requirements of the visitor
  • Google ReCaptcha - an external tool for user authentication when submitting forms on the web; thanks to this tool we can verify that the user is not a programmed robot, which sends the form over and over again and thus creates spam.

We use a "session cookie" on our website to store information about:

  • Web language - used to store information about the selected language; thanks to this information, we can display pages in the desired language to the user;
    Buzz - used to display successful or warning pop-up messages, or alerts;
    Pop-up windows - used to display the so-called modal windows; In them, we provide visitors with information, for example, about a closed office or a wish for the new year.
